I. Background
   Taiwan is a rapidly aging country, as its population of the 65+ years-old has reached 14% of the entire population. In 2007, on the basis of the concept that “education” would be the best “provision” for senior citizens, Professor Hui-Chuan (Peggy) Wei from the Department of Adult Education at National Chung-Cheng University, the leading institution of senior education research in Taiwan, established the Aging and Education Research Center. At the center, we believe that by integrating different areas such as sports, functional fitness, psychology and medicine, as well as placing education as the top priority, all individuals would receive great benefits from “active aging”.

III. Main Research Theme
   The main theme of research is to develop active aging learning themes. Our goal is to combine theories and application in our research thereby creating a practical and useable active aging educational learning framework. At the center, we are endeavoring to (ADDIE):
A: Analyze the needs of an aging society for active or successful aging to be accomplished effectively
D: Develop active aging provisions: curriculum, materials and plans
D: Design methods to best implement active aging related provisions
I: Implement innovative active aging-related provisions
E: Evaluate the effectiveness of innovative active aging-related provisions

   Our center's goal is to develop a well-organized system for the elder's education, personnel training, and researching network. The center will also create an innovated and creative system of learning for the elders, so that the elder's education will be valued and considered.
